Wastewater and Stormwater repair  has an exciting opportunity for individuals with heavy construction and underground utility skills. As a Utility Worker, you will perform semiskilled, heavy manual labour assisting in repair and maintenance of the wastewater and stormwater systems. Primary duties include:

  • Perform heavy manual labour such as digging, lifting, and shoveling.
  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, operation, and repair of utilities.
  • Complete paperwork and forms related to specific tasks.
  • Use various hand tools and power tools to complete tasks.
  • Complete site restoration work and drive various sized vehicles.
Qualifications 
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, or a Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, with no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with:
    • Any Alberta Trades Certification or Red Seal Trades Certification.
    • Experience operating any of the following equipment: Hydrovac, High Pressure Truck, Backhoe, Trackhoe, Tandem Truck Driver, Bobcat or Skidsteer.
    • Experience in any of the following: Underground Utility CCTV, Stormwater system operation and maintenance and/or underground utility construction.
  • 1 year of related driving experience, work experience with power/ hand tools and underground construction related experience will be considered assets.
  • A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED) will be considered an asset.
  • A valid Class 1 or Class 3 Driver's License or Q (Air Brake) endorsement will be considered an asset.
  • Boom Truck operator experience (or journeyman certification) will be considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires applicants to hold safety as a value, as working safely is critical in all tasks performed and, in all decisions made.
Working Conditions: These positions are physically demanding, at various locations, and work is done in all types of weather conditions and involves exposure to sewage. 

Note: Applicants may be considered for current or future opportunities (permanent or temporary) within Infrastructure Services, Operational Services, or Environmental Risk & Resilience, based on qualifications and evolving organizational needs.

Pre-employment Requirements 
  • A security clearance will be conducted. 
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
  • Successful candidate will be expected to report to various city locations.
