Position: Facility Operator (5 th Class Power Engineer) Reports to: The Director of Facilities Position Group: Facilities Term: Permanent full-time position Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS) is a premier co-educational day school nestled in the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains just outside of the City of Calgary on a 220+ acre campus. Position Overview Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School is seeking a qualified Facilities Operator to join the Facilities team. The Facilities Operator will hold a 5th Class Power Engineer certificate and who works collaboratively to ensure safe, secure, clean, well-maintained, and functional educational facilities. This position provides technical oversight and general labour in the operation and maintenance of campus buildings, vehicles, grounds, and related equipment and systems, including fire and life safety, security, HVAC, kitchen equipment, plumbing fixtures, lighting, and building systems. The role performs minor repairs, supports maintenance requests, and assists facility staff with operational tasks while modeling safety and professional standards. The Facilities Operator also participates in a rotating one-week on-call schedule to provide operational support outside regular working hours. Core Areas of Responsibility middot; Perform all duties in accordance with provincial legislation, industry standards and STS procedures to ensure their own safety and the safety of team members, other employees. Students, visitors, and contractors. middot; Maintain both quality and quantity of work expected of the role in an efficient and timely manner and demonstrate adaptability to change in work priorities. middot; Perform minor repairs to all building systems including drywall, painting, cabinetry work, doors and windows, exterior and interior finishing 's, roofing systems floor systems floor finishes, molding and ceiling tile. middot; Preforming snow removal and general ground maintenance, shipping and receiving, event setup and take down, classroom setup, opening/closing moving of furniture, equipment and supplies, pick up and deliver material, equipment parts and supplies from local supplies and within the school. middot; Assist in monitoring the performance of heating, electrical, mechanical and security systems. middot; Perform minor troubleshooting of all equipment, vehicles and building systems issues to ensure the safe and efficient operation. middot; Operation of vehicles, ground and snow removal equipment and hand tools. middot; Make recommendations for purchasing and maintaining an inventory for necessary supplies, tools and equipment. middot; Demonstrate and uphold a strong commitment to occupational health and safety. middot; Assist in the ongoing development and implementation of STS Health and Safety Program. middot; Take ownership and initiative for respective area and report all maintenance requirements, deficient and safety concerns to Director of Facilities and Facilities Manager as appropriate. middot; Communicate effectively and demonstrate teamwork to contribute towards positive relationships. middot; Effectively prioritize and solve associated work problems in a collaborative manner. middot; Take part in the 24 hour, 7 days a week on-call weekly rotation schedule ensuring maintenance support of the building and building occupants as well as off hours shifts as necessary. middot; Maintain clean and tidy workspaces. middot; Other related duties as assigned, to assist the Director of Facilities. Qualifications and Experience middot; High School Diploma. middot; A valid Alberta class 5 driver 's license. middot; A valid Fifth Class Power Engineering Certificate is required. middot; Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain confidentiality with tack and diplomacy. middot; Suitable demeanor to work within the diverse school community and ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, employees, contractors, and outside agencies. middot; Demonstrated ability to understand, speak and write in English, have strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to keep accurate records. middot; Demonstrated working knowledge of computers (e.g. Microsoft Office and building management systems). middot; Must be able to lift moderate to heavy weight (100 lbs) and be comfortable when working at heights. middot; Knowledge of occupational hazard and safety measures specific to facilities. middot; Self-Motivated; able to work independently without supervision. middot; Strong organization and time management skills and demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment.
